I can’t access my master pages in my documents.
I click on the master page in the document layout palette, and it doesn’t react.
There is a problem that I think is related to this.
When I try to insert an additional page into my document it reads “insufficient space to perform this operation”.
I un-installed quark from my machine and re-installed it.
I use A PC windowsXP Dell dimensionXPS.

Thanx

Avi:)

You cannot select master pages from the document layout pallette (unless I'm very much mistaken). To access master pages you need to do one of the following:

1. Click 'Page' on the menu bar (top of screen) then 'Display' to list master pages.

2. Use the page selector on the left side of the status bar (bottom of screen) to select your master page.

Actually that is the regular method of selecting master pages.

Even when trying to select the master page thru you method, I still cannot view or access the page. The regular document is pushed to the side of the screen, and I do not see any master page.

My second problem is (and I think they are related) when I try adding a page to the document, I drag a page in the layer pallette, from the master area to the page area and it dos not respond.

So I try to insert from the top menu PAGE / INSERT then the insert page menu pops-up.
I request to insert 1 page into the document, and I get a notice! That there is insufficient memory to perform this operation.
I click ok, and I actually get an additional page, but I cant access the master pages.

Thanks for you time

Sorry to have misunderstood you.

Are you having this problem with all your master pages or just one in particular? Are your document pages unusually large? Does your master page have a very big graphic embedded in it? Can't think of anything else that might cause this. Perhaps something 'illegal' has somehow been created on the master page, (a bug, such as an item positioned off the pasteboard) and this is now preventing you from accessing that master page.

You could try creating a new master page and using it to replace all instances of the malfunctioning master (obviously not fun, but it would probably work).

Thanx for your reply.

I make a new document, as the document opens I try to access the master page, and no reaction.

I made a document in another computer with master pages, transferred it to this problematic computer and tried to open…….but no success.

Is your machine lacking memory or do you possibly have several applications running in the background? I've never seen anything like this, but if it keeps happening whenever you try to open a document it would appear to be a problem with your machine rather than with Quark. You might even (perish the thought) have a virus of some sort eating up memory.

The only other thing I can think of is that you might be accidently creating a 210cm X 297cm document instead of a 210mm x 297mm document. (Actually, I don't think Quark lets you make pages that big, so this is a very stupid suggestion).

Sorry about the lame advice, I hope you figure it out.

I don't know if this issue was ever resolved, but I've got the same problem
I'd appreciate any advice with thanks

The only part of this problem that I've ever experienced is the error message: "There is insufficient memory to perform this operation". In my case, it was an XTension misbehaving, so you could try turning them all off to see if the problem goes away. If it works, re-introduce them again a few at a time until you get the offending item.

You could also dump the preferences folder and restart Quark, which will re-generate them again. It could also be a font problem.

Have you always had this problem, or has it only occurred recently?

I am having the exact same problem. Quark 5 and I can't for the life of me figure it out and never seen this problem in all my years of using the thing.

any help GREATLY appreciated.

Is there a virus perhaps which affects this kinda thing? None of my virus scans find anything though. PA ;-(

I had same problem.

There is no thing that i didnt try:
6hrs of uninstaling/reinstaling, removing fonts, deactivating xtensions, antivirus/antispy software, booting in safe mode, restoring system (xp) on the point that everything worked, etc, etc...
... i came to the solution: problem seems to dissapear if i run Photoshop in a same time as qxpress.

I know,it seems stupid, but now i can acces damn master!
