I can see two shares from windows network browser. homes (created during install I guess) and one I created using swat on Mandrake 8.0. Like I said I can see the shares but when I try to map to them it keeps asking for a password for linux01\guest? In windows I right click the share select map network drive , click use different user name, type in the user name, hit ok. samba prompts me for the password of the user I picked, act like it takes it, then immediately asks me for a group password?
Why?

Thanks in advance.

Something sounds fishy. What is the value of security= in smb.conf? And have you created samba users? - This is not the same as linux users.

smah,
Thanks for the response. I installed Samba during the Mandrake 8.0 install. I did not create samba users that I know of can you do that using swat?

smah,
Worked great I guess I though Samba was using the machine accounts to determine rights now I know. Thanks
