We have a client who has 5-6 machines all running XP Pro. They have not purchased a server as they can get what they need in a peer to peer environment until they hit 10+ users.

We have installed a Netopia 3346-ent router and setup vpn profiles using pptp with ms-chap and encryption.

The problem is the users cannot map drives via vpn. They can goto the \\ipaddress\share. Buty they need to be able to have thier mapped drives as this is what the software they are using is looking for.

Any thoughts or suggestions on what the issue may be would be appreciated.

Thanks in advance.

sounds like name-resolve problem.

goto: c:\windows\system32\drivers\etc
open the "hosts" file.

add lines in the bottom like the example there...

like:

peermachinename<TAB>"ipadress-of-peermachinename"

save and close hosts

then see if you can map to: \\peermachinename\share
