I have the simplest of questions...so don't laugh. I have two pc's jioned by a hub. They are in the same workgroup, all relevent folders are shared, and i can see all that is needed and can access into all that is needed. I cannot get a dos based program to run from one machine onto the other. Any suggestions? i'm sure I mapped the drive or folder correctly....its pretty up front and simple....right?
Thanks in advance

I did the net use command and it said copleted successfully. I then typed X: then enter and it changed to that directory. but when I typed dyna.bat then hit enter it said ...the specified path could not be found.
from windows i can now see the network drive as x with care in perinthisis. i can also see it as a network drive from pc2. but i still cannot get it to run. I also read the dyna.bat file and it menyions nothing about any drive letters at all.

after re-reading my whole post i did not do the command prompt from pc2 i did it from pc1 then tried to access it from that command prompt. i then went to pc2 to try it thru windows and thru command prompt and it still would not run.

Yeah I agree. Let us see your batch file.

Can you Open the new X drive from Windows explorer? Is there anything in it? Can you see dyna.bat in there?

Ignorance is not necessarily Bliss, case in point:
Unknown has caused an Unknown Error on Unknown and must be shutdown to prevent damage to Unknown.

Should I also delete the network drive I've created and go to pc2 and re-do the net use command from there and try that first?

It would probably be a good idea to do it from the other PC.

I have a copy of dyna.bat which is here:
@ECHO OFF
CLS
IF NOT EXIST \CARE\OPSELECT.EXE CD\CARE
IF EXIST CARE?.BAT DEL CARE?.BAT
IF '%1' == 'A' GOTO SLAVE
IF '%1' == 'T' GOTO SLAVE
IF '%1' == 'I' GOTO SLAVE
IF '%1' == 'O' GOTO SLAVE
ECHO Checking for 386/486/Pentium processor...
\CARE\AVMEM 520
\CARE\CSPILOGO
\CARE\DYNALOGO M
:SLAVE
IF NOT EXIST \CARE\XMCARE.EXE \CARE\CARE %1%2*%USERNAME%
IF EXIST \CARE\XMCARE.EXE \CARE\XMCARE %1%2*%USERNAME%
IF EXIST CARE2.BAT CARE2
TYPE \CARE\LINE.LGO
I also have a copy of what was displayed after trying to open it:
The system cannot find the path specified.

On pc1 the network drive is displayed as X: and on pc2 it is displayed as Z:
I can go into the folder which shows as a network drive and see what is in it but I still could not get the program to run.
I didn't delete anything and redo yet.
Let me know what yo think.

Your problem now is that X: is mapped to the care folder, so there is no care folder on the machine with that mapping - and the batch file assumes it runs in a folder named care. So, if the care folder is immediately below the drive letter on its home machine, you need to share that drive letter and then map X: to that. Then X:\care will exist and all should hopefully be well. If care is one of more folders down the tree, just map X: to its owning folder.

Yes, dyna.bat is referencing the folder its in. But since care doesn't exist in PC2 in can't find it.

I would second Wolluf, and say Map care's parent folder Hopefully that will work.

You'll have to share it before you map it though .

Please be patient with me, but I'm not sure I'm following you. pc1 has a mapped folder named x:(care) and pc2 now shows z:(care). pc1 is where the care folder resides. pc2 is where I need it to run from. So your saying map care's parent folder on pc1 from pc2? And do I do this from the command prompt or try from within windows on pc2?
I also already have had all folders shared all the way to and including the care folder.

Yes, on pc2 map to care's parent folder on pc1, from a command line or Explorer on pc2.

I would like to extend my gratitude to all who painstakenly guided me thru this. It is working like a charm and all are happy. THANK YOU ALL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
