Mapped Network Drive for backups SQL 2000

Is it possible to use network drives for backing up? In EM I've tried adding a mapped to the backup devices but I get an error. It is not possible to validate this backup location. Then if i try to run it I get Device Off-line. Any ideas?

Yes, you can backup to a network drive.

Is the network drive shared?

Does SQL Server Agent service have access (permissions) to the drive?
