I had a NIC card issue on my Master domain controller, and had to change the IP and use another NIC on my server and disable the previous.

WINS is not refreshing its database. My master browser is being reported with the wrong IP. My [00H] workgroup is wrong as well as my [20h] File server. What is the best practice in the field to remedy this?

Thanks! Shakamon

First, changing the IP address of a DC has to be followed by refreshing all the refferences to that IP address in the DNS.
Try a restart of the DC. It will recreate the entries in the DNS.
WINS, have some parmeters that you can set for a better management of it:

Did all of the above? My master domain controller has all the correct records. I have a member server that runs DNS and WINS, it has the old info. I have tried manually replication between the two, and nothing. Do I have to scavenge?

If have 5 locations of WINS servers. 2 in one office, 2 in another, 1 in a third and 2 locally here with me. SO you can see the mess I have. I put LMhost fiel entries to my Master domain controller my BDC's to mitigate. But the server is wish to DCPromo cannot be done, because its WINS database has those incorrect entries from above. And cannot find the domain controller. The erroneaous entry has been pushed out to the rest of my WINS servers, and I have need those changed to reflect the proper new IP.

Would I have to set my Wins server, which is the domain controller as well, to expire its records and pick up new ones?

Sorry,. i'm too tired this eveing,. is late here. I will see tomorrow what youhave there. It looks now that your WINS servers are not properly configured. Have you push/pull replication?

Ah ha I got it. on each local WINS server at the command prompt, I ran

C:\nbtstat -RR Its a release refresh command, solved everything!

Thanks for your help though!
