Manual MWI On and Off (now not working)...

Good morning all.

I've read the posts in the past about creating a feature code to enable/disable a station's message light. I have successfully been able to light the lamp, but have not been able to turn off the lamp. At one point, I did get it to work once, but not since then (and with no changes).

My feature codes are *991*N# for ON and *990*N# for OFF. I also created a *999 for turning it off AT the phone. Neither OFF code works, and the format (in theory) is correct.

Here's the dial out code for *990*N#
N"; Msgs=0" (there's a space between ; and M)

The only thing I can think of is that the instructions were written against 4.0.x and we're on 4.1.x.

Only it does not work when voicemail is turned off !!!
Turn on voicemail and try and turn it off and try

Without the spaces, both codes activate the display (and you actually see it on the screen now) and the lamp, and using the phone clears it.

That is correct. That actually beeps the phone once when it turns on the lamp and displays "Msgs=0" or "Msgs=1" on the screen. The second you pick up the phone, it wipes out. But the "off code" doesn't actually turn off the lamp, it just displays a different message.

When the space is in there, the phone's lamp comes on (without beeping the phone) and the display screen doesn't have any text on it, and that lamp stays lit until a reboot (or hopefully soon, when the OFF code is dialed).

Well, here's what I did to fix it (and no it didn't have a message)...

Changed the shortcode from *990*N# to *990*xxxx. I also did this for the ON code as well, because all extensions on-site are 4-digits. That fixed it. On & Off....

When I had it as a variable length extension with # ending (*990*N#) it had the problem I reported at the beginning of the thread. Now that I've removed the #, it works. And since I didn't want to wait for the digit timeout, I changed it from an "N" to "xxxx".
