manage server with mmc

we are trying to use the mmc to manage our server from our laptops. we have no problem creating the consoles and adding snap=ins and stuff but when we try and run the file from our xp pro laptops we can'y use the active directory snapins. i cant remember the error right now but it was like it could not find the required file needed to run it. does anyone know where i can find more info on this?

Have you installed the admin pack on your laptops? If not grab the win2k3 install cd and install them.

yeah i installed the admin pack. when i got run the active directory thing from the admin tools i get this error:

Naming information can not be located because the specified domain either does not exist or could not be contacted

when i click ok the console comes up but its not working. if i got to the action menu and press connect to domain or domain controller and type in the info i get a message saying the computer you wish to manage is in the <our domain name> domain would you like to connect and then when i say yes it says the same Nameing thing again.

Before we created the active direcory domain we could go tino computer management and connect to the server from there to manage it and now that won't work either. everything started when we created the active directory

I am logged onto the domain on the laptops with full admin rights.
