Making one DSL connection wireless.

I have a buddy who is trying to make his dsl connection wireless so he can use his lap top anywhere in the house. He recently purchased the D-Link DI-524 router and the D-Link DWl-G630 wireless card bus adapter. Is this posible to do?

Yeah. You are basically replacing a hunk of cat5 with the wireless and possibly losing some thruput, but it will work.

Ok thanks. We tried it yesterday but no luck. Is there a certain way to connect the router or something other than what the instructions say. The problem was there was no activity on the router or modem or cardbus card. The Laptop is running XP pro.

Haven't used your combo, but the stuff I've had up for testbeds over time have required me to get the stuff up with cat5 at the beginning so I could parallel the network stuff with some confidence.
Once the wire worked I moved on to the wireless.

Well everything worked as long as the router was connected to the laptop via the cable. But once the cable was disconnected that was it.

I would verify that you have an SSID setup and that the
SSID on the wireless card in the laptop matches the SSID that you have set on the router.

Don't start the D-link software, use the XP software to connect.

Thanks so far. So to make sure I have everything right. Connections are: Wall outlet to DSl Modem > From Modem to wireless router > and then use the XP software to connect.

How do you verify the SSID setup. Is that under settings for the wireless card?

Sorry if I sound like I don't know anything this thing has me stumped.

Also it would help if someone knows where I could find out more info on the type of setup.

Under the linksys that I am somewhat familiar with, you have to connect to it to do some setups, including the SSID.
And on the cards in the notebook, you go into the setups to use the same SSID.
But it has been almost a year since I did it, so the memory is becoming flaky.
Because of the speed of changes, I had to go to the website to get the latest manual pages before I could make sense of it all.
