Making a windows bootable cd 1

Hi
My XP cd is bootable but I copied the contents to my hard drive(didnt make an image)for back-up purposes. I copied the files from the hard disk to a CD-R and tried to boot but the laptop didnt see it as a bootable cd.
I am using Nero 6.3.1.20, selected make bootable cd but it asks for an image file.

Question - how can I make my copied windows cd bootable?

ANY help would be appreciated

You need to use Nero to make an image of the original Windows CD, if you just copy all the files to the HD then to a CD the correct files are not in a bootable area.

You first need to make or download a boot file for the CD. Then you need to make a disk image. Nero can be used nicely to create a good boot CD. This link should be all the details you need:

You need to extract the Image File (Microsoft Corporation.img) with an IMG Extractor (e.g. Winimage) to make an Image, then burn it. Some CD Recording programs can do this for you if you have the original CD.

Thanks Guys, I used an image file boot.img and nero and it worked fine. My laptop didnt come with a floppy drive so want to boot from other device - bios has option of booting from USB Mass storahe device so going to try this next

Fred Langa (LangaList) just ran an article on how to make a bootable "thumbdrive". What OS are you using?
