Hi,

I recently installed 2000 on one box. It's a workgroup, the drive is shared, I've given permissions to a user that I created, however I still can't establish a connection. My other computer actual sees it, but when I click on it, it states: \\MyComputer\IPC$ and enter password. Every
password I have created is the same password, so I punch in the same password, yet it states password is incorrect. I 've looked into "Share Folders" in the management table. It lists all the shared folders and an IPC folder. I don't know what this is, but I suspect it has something to do with it. Right clicking on its properties gave me this statement "this has been shared for admin purposes, the share permissions and file security cannot be
reset". Do you know the relevence of this? Any thoughts will be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Dear Daniel,

Are u trying to access that share from win98, then u must make the 98 workstation the member of the same workgroup.
ie. U need to change u'r Network configuration of the windows 98 Machine. OK.
and the next time the user must log into the 98 pc. with the same user name and password created in 2000 box.

or if both are 2000 only. u need to enter the user name and password in this format.
Username: <workgroup/domain>\<username>
Password: <Password>

Hopefully this will help u.

Hi Srihari,

The other machine is 98 and it has the same workgroup name. However I don't have a login for 98, is that essential to making a connection?

Thanks,
DanH

yes, a logon for 98 will be a great help. preferably logon using client for microsoft networks. the logon to the 98 machine should be the same username/password you created for the user on you 2k box.

Oh, I see. It makes sense. See, I always had a network using 98 which didn't require a login. Anyhow, when I get home tonight I will logon using microsoft networks.

Thanks,
DanH

Dear Daniel,

Let me know still u got any problem

Sreelu,

That was it. I went home last night and switched 98 to use Micosoft network login and it worked. Before, I had used 98 exclusively for my home network, so I thought 2000 would work in a similar fashion...my mistake. Anyhow, it works great now!

A million thanks,
danH
