some time ago i made all my folders private, in my win XP pro. I achieved it, but now i want to undo it, went to help and cant find "user profile", where help says i'll find a check box saying "turn this folder private so that only me can see it".
But i cant find this folder or check box or menu. I rightclicked every folder in documents & settings but no way
Can you help please?
thank you

1. Disable under Windows Explorer, Tools, Folder Options, View, "Use Simple File Sharing - recommended"

2. Right-click the folders, or the iconic symbol for the entire drive, Security, Add, and add the Group "Everyone" with full permissions to the drive.

3. Adjust as desired by user or group.

4. Reset #1 if desired.

thanks for helping!
that's it: i had that unchecked, but when i check it (recomended) the menu showed up!
now, un my settings, i've strange characters (language =pt - portuguese)
C:\Documents and Settings\rs51\Definiþ§es locais\Hist¾rico
Definiþ§es should be: definições
Hist¾rico should be: histórico
How can i put it ok?
thanks again

Check your codepage:

Start, run, mode con

Look at the last line.

You can search for the right codepage using Google.

re hi and thanks again
msdos says 850 but google search 860. What do i have to do?
and another thing: making explore/C/documents and settings/rs51/,
if i make visible all folders, i've 2 (TWO) folders local settings, one well written (hidden) and the other with that strange characters.
I'm sorry for making all these questions, but you seem to know a lot of it, so here i am asking you
thanks again

in the meanwhile i changed mode from 850 (multilanguage) to 860 (portuguese) but the strange characters persisted, so i rolled it back again... dont know what to do

You may be missing some Windows components.

There are some codepage options only available with the full multilanguage edition of XP, and you may not have that.

Bring up Task Manager (Ctrl-Alt-Del) and see if internat.exe is running. You may need to add the IME and/or language option to XP. You do so in Control Panel, and on the left, Add/Remove Windows Compenents, to add the Language Bar. Or Google "xp language bar" to see installation and options.

sorry i didnt noticed you posted again and as i didnt want to be off topic i posted another topic about this and else.i'm gonna try what you said and come back
thaks again

hi again
- i searched and dont have " internat.exe "
- i allready instaled the language bar (language = pt)
- i read the links you sent and what i have seems ok
- from what i understood i've everything fine, but the mess keeps on...
one last remark: only in my user (lx51) i've those strange characters, but those strange characters appear in every user in msdos
