I am using WinXP and i have both Microsoft Word 2002 and Microsoft Word 2000 installed.

How can i make Word 2000 the default application? (Currently Word 2002 is the default)

I went to Windows Explorer, Tools, Folder Options and clicked on the File Types tab. Then i scrolled down to DOC and clicked 'change'. I browsed to Word 2000 (C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office\Office\winword.exe) and clicked OK.

But it doesn't stay. It keeps flipping back to Word 2002!

Besides just going to add/remove and deleting Word 2002, is there a way to make Word 2000 the default for my doc files?

Thanks,

Hi ruthcali,

I don't know if this is the case for you, but I have laptops on which I've loaded different versions of Word also. I realize that the last version I loaded is the one that pops up as the default. I reloaded the one I wanted to be my default (so that it is the last version loaded) and it works fine now.

Hope that helps!

Hi Blue,

Thanks for writing. When i bought the computer, it had Word 2002 already loaded. I installed Word 2000 later.

So Word 2000 is the last version on my machine, but it still goes to Word 2002 as the default.

So unfortunately, your method won't work for me.

But thanks again for writing.
