Make-up job does not start - reasons?

On all our backup jobs (ARCServe 2000, SP4 on WIN2K server) we have the "Retry Missed Targets" setting on so that a make-up job kicks in when a backup fails or is cancelled. For some reason the make-up does not always kick in. I was wondering if anyone else has had this problem and what the reason for the job not starting may be. Sometimes the backup job runs past the "Retry" time, which is set at 11:59:59 pm, which is the only reason I can think of....

Any thoughts / suggestions?

If the re-try time has passed then the make up job will not run. Set the re-try time to after the backup job will normally finish
