I have a hardware device that plugs in via the 25pin 232 cable and on the computer its the LPT1 port..

the software that is used to configure said hardware can only select a COM port...

Is there any way I can make the LPT1 look like a COM port.. or select a com port and have it talk to the LPT1 port...

I'm working on getting a pci db-25 card.. but that will take too long to get onsite..

THanks!

Get a 9-pin to 25-pin adapter.

Bill, how about rereading the question, think you misinterpreted. And I'm seriously afraid that the 9/25 adapter is going to blow the LPT.

If you only have a 25s(lpt) and you need a 25p(serial) your only choices are ISA serail ports, PCI serial ports, or a parallel to serial converter.

If the problem is the serial cable from the machine has pins and you have a 25 pin serial on the computer the solution is a gender changer. If you have a 9 pin serial port the 9/25 plus a gender changer is required.

Plugging a serial connection into a parallel port can create damage.

I think I have it right. The OP looks at the back of his machine and sees only one 25-pin port (the parallel port). The device is clearly serial as the supporting software/driver references only COM ports as settings.

In this instance you use a 9 -to- 25 pin serial adapter to present the connection for the supplied cable.

Note too that the cable is apparently marked as r-232; a parallel cable would be distinguished with other markings.

This is a serial device using a supplied rs-232 serial cable, and with software that allows only COM port assignments.
