Hi,

I deleted many mailboxes equaling about 1 gig of data. The mailboxes have disappeared, but the size of the private information store is still the same. Its been a month now and the size is the same. My delete items retention is set at 2 days. Any ideas?

Thanks in advance

Is your auto defrag on? Hope this Helps

To free the disk space up on the drive you need to perform an offline defrag of the Private Information Store.
If you take a look in Technet at the ESEUTIL command.
Be warned this does involve downtime and can take a while to finish.

The way to do this is:

Stop all Exchange services.
Go to cmd prompt

cd /exchsrvr/bin
eseutil /d /ispriv

But you should start off by doing eseutil /? to check what command line switches you need....

ITDude - Here's the info you need:

Search for a thread named "Offline defrag on pub.edb" with some Phat posts by ShackDaddy. It's a cookbook for what you need to do on your Priv.edb. I did it last night and reclaimed about 5 GB of disk space.

It's practically a no brainer if you PREPARE.

Good Luck!

True.
Priv will not shrink until you do an offline defrag. If you look for a MSPriv event #1221 in apps event log it will tell you how much free space you have inside the priv.
