Good morning,

I have configured an exchange 2003 and then I registred myself to no-ip.org
I obtained a free domain name and MX record for my mail server.
However I can't receive email form others domains, except the "zoneedit" test mail (
I have tested with zoneedit SMTP test and everything seems OK, even I receive the test mail send by "zoneedit", which says :

"If you receive this test message your mail server is probably working".

However I can't get any mails from other domain (ex: yahoo, hotmail...)

It's very strange? Can you please figure out?

yahoo, hotmail, AOL, MSN, Optonline all require you have an RDNS entry.

Post your domain name if you wish a more detailed analysis or you can check DNSSTUFF.COM yourself.

I hope you find this post helpful.

Regards,

Mark

Beside that, did you wat long enough for the DNS's to pick up?

Marc
If 'something' 'somewhere' gives 'some' error, expect random guesses or no replies at all.

Hi all,

Thanks for your assistance.

Markdmac,

I have tested my domaine name with DNSSTUFF.COM, see below the result :

E-mail Tester results for alain@mcnserver.no-ip.org
Generated by Getting MX record for mcnserver.no-ip.org (from local DNS server, may be cached)... Got it!
Host Preference IP(s) [Country]
sercermcn.no-ip.org. 5 8.4.112.108 [US]

Step 1: Try connecting to the following mailserver:
mcnsercer.no-ip.org. - 8.4.112.108
Step 2: If still unsuccessful, queue the E-mail for later delivery.
Trying to connect to all mailservers:

mcnserver.no-ip.org. - 8.4.112.108 [Could not connect: Could not receive data: Operation timed out.]
[Note that if your mailserver takes over 30 seconds to respond, our test will timeout, even though real mailservers will wait longer]

This test seems "failed" but I can receive the test email send by zoneedit (i don't understand the problem).

To Marcs41,

Sorry, I don't get your point.

What I mean is that the DNS server around the world have to have time to pickup you no-ip adress.
Don't forget, you are using free services, if they go in error, that has hardly anything to do with your Exchange Server.

You can test with nslookup to see it the MX record points to the correct current address.

Hi,

I have tested with nslookup, it seems ok :

mcnserver.no-ip.org MX preference = 5, mail exchanger = mcnsercer.no-ip.org
mcnsercer.no-ip.org internet address = 8.4.112.108

Is your registered domain pointing to mcnserver.no-ip.org?

There is no way that I can see with this service for you to setup an RDNS entry. The IP is listed with no-ip.org.

Unless someone knows some trick (that would probably get you flagged as a spammer) you will not be able to communicate with the domains I listed above. Typically you can RECEIVE from them but not send to them.

I hope you find this post helpful.

As long as the no-ip service would supply the 'real' IP as Reverse IP for his domain, then he should be ok, but as a 'free' part, I doubt they do that. The payed service is more extensive.

Exactly my point Marcs41. Going with the free service you are nto going to get a dedicated IP address and as such it is impossible to RDNS on it as it is shared.

Which is a shame. It's a violation of the RFC for those ISPs to refuse delivery of email based on a missing rDNS, but they do it anyway.

Pat Richard, MCSE(2) MCSA:Messaging, CNA(2)

RFCs are unenforcable. They are merely agreed upon standards. By doing this they ARE eliminating millions of SPAM messages.

It boils down to businesses needing to invest in their business if they wish to be online to ensure delivery. I have seen businesses waste money on so much non-essential crap I have little sympathy when they need to pay for something to actually make them be able to work.

I hope you find this post helpful.

Hi all,

First, Thnks all of you for your feedback.

Markdmac wrote : "Typically you can RECEIVE from them but not send".

My problem is the opposit I can send email for example to HOTMAIL and other private domains but I cannot receive the reply.

For example : the user alain@mcnserver.no-ip.org sent an email to myself@hotmail.fr and i receive it in the spam folder but when I replied to him he didn't get the answer.

However, you were wright yahoo rejected automatically the mail of alain@mcnserver.no-ip.org.

I am in doubt, why I can send to hotmail and other private domains and then I cannot get the reply ?

Thanks in advance

i receive it in the spam folder

The SCL rating is probably causing their system to block the reply.

I hope you find this post helpful.

Mark

I think the bottom line is:
get a fixed IP, or get a (paid) service with a decent DDNS supplier.
