Mail merge with pictures

Hello all, I don't know who can help me but here is my prob. We are trying to do a mail merge through Word from a SQL db. I can get the person's ID generated fine but I want to attach the picture of that person from the sql DB to the email. After the import is through the picture is not shown. If I try to even manually insert a picture it still does not show up on the email. I know they are stored as binary file in SQL..is it having a problem recognizing the format?>??? Any ideas or leads would be appreciated.
