Mail Merge date problem

I have an Access DB that I'm merging into Word (both 2000) via Mail Merge and a query. I need my Mail Merge output to display mostly Long Dates (IE July 15, 2001).

I've changed all the date fields that I can find. The date fields in the tables have been changed to Long Date format. If I look at my table data I can see all my dates in long date format. I've changed all the date field formats in my query to Long Dates. If I run the query I can see my query results in long date format but when I try to merge to Word from that query my dates become short dates such as: 2001-07-15 instead of July 15, 2001. Very frustrating.

If I look in my Windows regional settings on my local machine, I can see that ther short date style is set to yyyy-mm-dd ...which seems to be the format my merge output is displaying. My long date format in Windows Regional Settings is mmmm d, yyyy. (NT4)

Does anyone have suggestions as to why I can't get my merged output to display as I would like or what I can do to get it to display the correct way.

The only thing I can think of is our server settings...maybe the Regional Sttings on our server is set up differently. I'm having someone check that for me...in the meantime, does anyone have any suggestions?

Maybe there's a property setting in word somewhere that can help me format my dates? I'm at a loss here. Can anyone assist?

Solved.

Found at Microsoft Technet. Solution is to use a 'picture switch' in word.

Initial Merge field was: «MERGEFIELD»

I revised this to:

«MERGEFIELD DATE \@ "MMMM d, yyyy"»

Adding \@ "MMMM d, yyyy" to the Merge Field displays my long date as July 15, 2002.

Thanks for listening.
