Hi, one of our users has just discovered you can drag and drop mail from the inbox to other folders within Outlook (97 in this case). This is fine if you want to organise subfolders etc. but he has dragged and dropped a really important email onto the "Outlook Today - (Personal Folders)" entry on the folder list - i.e. the root folder. When you click on this entry, it gives the normal page on the right with the Outlook Today summary and does not give him access to this email.

Does anyone know how to get this mail back into his inbox? I always assumed you couldn't put them there and have never come across this before - has anyone else?

Thanks in advance.

Disable Outlook Today by editing the registry.

1. Quit Outlook.
2. Click the Start button, and click Run.
3. Type REGEDIT in the Open box, and click OK.
4. Locate the following key and click to select it.

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Office\8.0\Outlook\Today

NOTE: You may not have the Today folder under Outlook. If not, you must create it. Click the Outlook folder, and on the Edit menu, point to New and click Key. Type Today beside the folder that appears in the list below Outlook, and press ENTER.

5. On the Edit menu, point to New and click DWORD Value.
6. Replace New Value #1 with Disable, and press ENTER.
7. On the Edit menu, click Modify and change the Value Data to 1 and click OK.
8. On the Registry menu, click Exit.
9. Start Outlook.

Actually, you don't need to edit the registry. There are 2 other ways to get to the mail.

1. Right click on Outlook Today, Properties, Home Page tab, deselect 'Show home page by default..'

2. The other option (if you can remember enough info about the message), is to use Advanced Find function.

Thanks guys. I used smah's method 1 and it worked fine.

Easy when yuo know how :)

Did not know that. Thanks Smah.
