Hi all,

I have a customer who wants more than 30 MADN's. Their situation is this:

--begin cut/paste--
This is a Futures Trading Company.

They have several DN’s that they want to appear on more than 30 phones. In the morning, one of the traders dials the floor in Chicago in the morning, then puts the call on hold. Any one of the traders can then pick up the open line and talk to the peeps on the other end, then puts the call back on-hold when they are done.

The call stays active until the end of the day when the last trader hangs up the call.

As you can see – ACD ain’t going to work.
--end cut/paste--

Anyone have any ideas? The only thing I could think of is throwing some 500 sets in there, and half-tapping them at the MDF or IDF, to get a few extras.... but still, I can't really think of a good way to accommodate them.

I appreciate all your thoughts!

Sorry - yes. I don't know where this office is (this req came down from a field manager wanting ideas from us techie people), but they call Chicago (or Chicago calls them) from one of these extensions (there are 2, I believe) that they want more than 30 MADN. So it's a different PBX, a PSTN call I believe.

I guess you could use a MCIB and setup a conf and they could join the conf any time and drop off.

This is an Analogy so don't take it personally as some have.

Why change the engine if all you need is to change the spark plugs.

Is there a conf bridge available? They could open a bridge and whenever one of the traders has a question he/she could just dial in and talk.
If not, you can build a 500 set with the same number you will put on each phone, this will allow users to pick up the line at any time as long as the call is open from their phone. There will be no privacy, if someone else wants to listen in they can, don't know if thats a concern or not. Someone will have to answer it initially of course.
Hope this helps, there are probably more ways, but this is simple to do.

But they didn't want to pay the price for a Turret System.

Sorry... what's a turret system? I'm assuming it's a joke and I'll feel stupid once I hear the answer hehe.

No it's not a joke, Turret system's are used by large Trading company's and are designed with the feature your looking for, A Nortel system is a very cheap way to do it also, but without a lot of features.

Oh - gotcha. Well, in the absence of using a permanent bridge, or park DN's... I think they're out of luck. I appreciate the info guys! ~MH~

A bridge card cost's about $5000

I worked for an investment banker/trading firm - sounds like the morning call needs to have a lot of people listen in.

The first thing you'll want to consider is adding extra Conf/TDS cards in the PBX.

Lets say you need 90 phones to listen in. The phone that initiates the morning call needs three lines, for example DN 1234; 2345; 3456. That initiator needs to conference those three lines into the call to the far end.

Now you have three lines that can be deployed on 30 phones each... Add 1234 to 30 phones, 2345 to another 30 phones, 3456 to another 30 phones. Then as posted, you need one analog phone programmed for each of the three DNs (i.e. three analog TNs total) to release the privacy on just those particular lines each phone has.

It is imperative you deploy this to as few phones as possible - 90 is going to eat of all the conference channels and limit peoples ability to transfer...hence, need more Conf/TDS cards. They are cheap on the secondary market and can be placed in any network loop space you have.

A conference bridge is not going to work better than this considering the complication, resource, cost and of course...aptitude of your financial associates.

They basiclly want an open line that anyone can pickup at any time, not a full time everyone on it at the same time.

Thanks all for your suggestions - I passed them on; of course, management never gets back to me to say if they even passed any of them on to the customer. WHo knows. But thanks anyway - lots of good ideas around here!

that is sorta a funny question... how about the same thing we installed for brokers 30 years ago.. a 1a2 key system.. even when nortel and rolm were new, brokers all had to have a 1a2 key system behind the switch, rothschild in san francisco(enbarqadero center), mckenna conner and etc in LA (eight and flower).. just a few that i'm glad are someone elses customer now
