Will changing a Windows 2000 machine name impact installed software or have any security settings that may rely upon the original machine name at the time of installation
No it shouldn't, i'm assuming it's 2000 pro? You can change the name at anytime.
He are some things to look out for:
1. If there are other computers mapped to this machine using UNC (//computername/share)
2. If you have static entries in the DNS server for this computer
3. That no other computer has the same name
Would this not have any implications on software such as AutoCAD which I am sure uses the machine name?
Is this bypassable without having to reinstall AutoCAD?
