i am not receiving some emails which contain graphics.
after consulting our IT person. she claims it is because our
server is too old and i should just get a gmail account.
i would like to keep using my company email but it is frustrating not receiving emails and the senders do not get a reply back stating that their email did not go thru.
any advice?

If your IT person is telling to get an outside email account because the company server is too old, it dosen't look like you have much of a choice unless they upgrade the email server there. I'm surprised they would allow you to run an outside email program. Obviously they don't care if your PC gets corrupted. If the email you need is business related maybe you can talk to someone's supervisor to get the ball rolling. Good luck!!

Agreed!!!!!!! Talk to the IT person's supervisor or have your supervisor talk to them. That's ridiculous. Most IT departments would kill you for using an outside e-mail account for business purposes. Why? 1. If you leave, the account goes with you and any mail in it. 2. The company has no control over it or the contents or if it's ever backed up or archived or filtered. 3. So many more reasons.....

I would demand some real answers from IT regarding WHY you can't receive the file. Is it mailbox size limit, mail attachment size limit, file type limitation, etc. E-mail needs to work for everyone or the company won't work. And I'm a former e-mail admin..

thanks for your replies.
i asked my supervisor if i could at least get a preferred gmail account. it's only $50 per year and i could keep my email address and use the gmail server.
he was going to find out. but doubted it.
i am tired of going thru the server here anyway.
since i work with graphics. maybe that is the problem.

As I said, there is no good reason why your company cannot provide e-mail service to you whether you use graphics or not. My old company was a publishing company and they routinely e-mailed TIFs and other image files used in putting together the magazines that were up to 30MB each.

Sounds like you work for a company with a "redneck" IT dept if their solution is getting you a Google mail account.

YEEHA git yoself one uh them hotmail accounts for free!!!
I have a client that's still running RHEL 3 and squirrel mail without any problems. They just don't want to deal with the issue.
