I have the above kit, my question is this, when i drop the network link back to the main site the ip phones do not connect to the lsp.

The phones are using dhcp from a w2k server using option 176.
I have only specified one call server address in here, the main site. When i do a show mgc list on the g700 i have my main ip address first and then my lsp second.

Do i also need to specify the lsp in the dhcp scope?

Yes, specify the LSP as a 2nd (or 3rd if you have multiple CLANs in the list) if you have address in the DHCP Option 176 string as in:

Option #176
MCIPADD=x.x.x.y,y.y.y.y,MCPORT=1719,TFTPSRVR=z.z.z.z

I would also modify the "IP-Network-Region" form, on page 2 of the form, there is a place for "Backup Servers (In priority order)", you should put the node-name of the S8300LSP at that site in their as well.

Thanks Mitch,

Will give this a go, i have set the backup server on page 2 of the ip-network-region form, my next question is then how does this work for phones that are staticlly configured?

Thanks again.

Q: "my next question is then how does this work for phones that are staticlly configured?"

A: It doesn't, you must have DHCP Option 176/242 setup to give out multiple H323 gatekeepers :)

If your statically programmed phones are 46xx models, you can specify the LSP node name in the survivable gatekeeper field. It is on the first page of the station form.

Thanks Mitch, Seezer.

Seezer on this particular site my handsets are 46xx's. But i do have the static ip addressing issue on a site using 96xx's phones, will these handsets not go to the lsp as i am unable to configuring multiple call servers in the dhcp scope and as you say above, the survivable gatekeeper entry only appears on the station form if set to a 46xx type set.

Thanks

Unfortunately, I don't know if 96xx phones aliased as 46xx phones can take advantage of the survivable gatekeeper field. Maybe someone can chime in.

Why don't you just setup a DHCP server and be done with it? Static IP addressing is very limiting... if you don't have a W2K or W2003 server onsite, even a CISCO ASA (which is a VPN concentrator) can run DHCP, and it also supports DHCP Options 176/242.

I would FIND a way to get DHCP, and forget about manual IP addressing.

Point accepted i am trying to get more time on site, so as to set up dhcp on the g350, never done it but looks like it can be done!

Cheers all
