Low and high beeps from PC speaker

Hi all
Strange one this. Over the past few days our home computer has started "Beeping" with low and high beeps from the PC's speaker. We have the very latest virus protection, firewall and the usual checks for trojans etc have all been done. I have never encountered anything like this before, any suggestions please?

when does it beep? is it completely random or does it only happen in certain programs or times?

I am going to guess you have the typical sub/amp with two speaker setup. Check the back of the sub/amp and make sure the rc are plug all the way in. That was the problem with my sisters computer.

VMPhilosophy - It beeps randomly (and annoyingly!)
Biocow - Just a straight forward pair of speakers attached but I'll try the conneciton anyway

Tried turning the PC speaker off and still get the beep. The connections to the speakers are all correct

Sounds like the sounds I get when my temperature sensor tells me the CPU is getting too hot.

You might want to pop the case and make sure you CPU fan is spinning or maybe check in the BIOS to see if the fan RPM's are registering.

yeah it could be that you have a cpu censor thing and its telling you its over heating OR a key is getting stuck on your keyboard. if your fans are fine, try unplugging the keyboard and start up the computer and see if you get the beeps.

I know what he is talking about but never found a fix or problem other than replacing the board...it is the onboard pc speaker and it sounds like a low keyed siren going off. and no mater what i replaced or removed never fix it until i replaced the board

hmm...Buckeye it sounds like the cpu fan warning was enabled and if there was no fan connected to it (you used the M/B case fan connector for the cpu fan?)and had no case fan, the warning was going nuts trying to say HEY THERES NO FAN CONNECTED!!!!!!!!!!

Disconnected the keyboard, mouse, modem and everything else I could think of (one by one). The CPU fan is registering over 5500 rpm and the temp was reading about 35% the alarm is set for 80% so no problems there. I read buckeyecomputers post and ask, "Is there any hope now for KB's computer without replacing the board?"

Thanks to those who replied on this thread. Now cured the beep by disconnecting the speaker completely. Call me ruthless but it worked and I refuse to pay the obscene amounts of money I've just been quoted by a local company

What can I say, IBM beep codes,
1 short = normal POST = sysyem is booting properly
2 short = initialisation error = error code is displayed
1 long 1 short = system board error
1 long 2 short = video adapter error
1 long 3 short = EGA/VGA adapter error
3 long 3270 = keyboard adapter error
Continuous = Power supply error = replace PS
999s = power supply error = replace PS
No beep = Power supply = replace PS.

i never found a solution...but i was not getting anything out of the board either..all fans were working properly to my knowledge, but who is to say that MB hadnt lost the abililty to know the fan was actually running...but this sytem i am talking about refuse to boot up, no video output whatsoever.

also i dont belive this was any kind of beep code i have ever heard..imagine an ambulance siren high pitch low pitch continuous..no breaks like short beeps and long beeps..just solid

I just had a look and the 'Award' bios has this description,

Repeating High/Low......
CPU.....................
Either the CPU is not seated properly or the CPU is damaged. May also be due to excess heat. Check the CPU fan or BIOS settings for proper fan speed.
