Lotus notes recipients receive our attachments as dat files

We are having a few problems where any external recipients who use Lotus Notes receive our attachments as .dat files. We have tried sending as Plain Text, Rich Text etc but it doesn't seem to work.

Any ideas would be greatly appreciated.
