HI All, I have deployed Lotus Notes on Citrix, and all is well, users have their own Home Directory, and their own Personal data is stored their and the application runs fine.

BUT

What doesn't work is when you "call" the mail client from within another application, in our instance Great Plains, but the same problem occurs if you try to use the "Send To" option in word, quit simply the call out to the mail client causes it to launch the executable okay, but it then generates an error stating that it cannot find the notes.ini file, which it can't, as it is on the users home drive and not in the default path location! Notes works fine if launched from the icon or as a published app, as we have specified the working directory to be the users home drive path, but how do we do this for a "called" email session.

Any ideas?

For send to to work you need outlook installed on the servers - you may find sometimes that Word will remove the Send to feature randomly; this is because it doesnt't detect a mail client so decides you won't be emailing.

I do a shared install
There should be no ini file in the local (server) notes folder, instead I have the path set to include notes.ini (h:\lotus). I had a few other strange problems setting it up, but see how far that gets you.

I have never dared install the lotus notes, on the citrix server. If you know any good guide, on how to do it, with mulitple users, please tell.

You can find a detailed step-by-step document from IBM

This is all useful info, however, it doesn't address the actual issue: to reiterate, the problem is not how to install the Notes Client onto WTS, this is done and as a mail client works fine, the problem appears to be with the MAPI interface and how it is called from within other applications. Terrywilson(MIS) is closest with the advice that without the Outlook client installed you do not get the Send To option at all, this I have tested and found to be accurate, unfortunately it didn't help the Great Plains application in calling the notes client and recognising that the notes.ini is on a network home drive rather than under C:\WINNT. I have tested and found that Great Plains can launch a new Memo from Notes if it launched in the background, but as we want to Publish the app rather than run it in a Virtual Desktop, this is where we have the problem.

I was under the impression that Lotus Notes "isn't" MAPI compliant and as such, you can't do what you want to do!

May be I'm mistaken!

As a bit of a thought, what happens if you are logged onto a desktop session on the server, run IE and then look at the Programs Configuration? Is Lotus Notes selectable as your mail client? Is it? If it's not, what happens if you make it your mail client and then run Great Plains? Can you mail out?

If you can, all you need to do is search the registry and find the appropriate settings and then write them into the registry via script for every user!

Cheers,
Carl.

HI, yes, Notes is MAPI compliant from v4.something onwards, I checked to ensure that the Default Mail Client within i.e. is notes, which it is.

We have been looking at this extensivly for a few days now, and are beginning to reach the conclusion that thius is just not going to work in a Citrix environment.

But anyone reading, please do provide any additional ideas, as I am not yet prepared to give up !

Hey there. Just wondering if you had had any joy with this one? I know it works with other apps because I eventually got it working here; but it took a few weeks of messing about and to be honest I am not entirely sure which of my many changes worked.

Does Send To actually work with Word now? I would make that your first goal, as once that is integrated and behaving then you know that at least the ms platform believes its correct.

Have you added into the path of the citrix servers the location for the users notes.ini file - h:\lotus\notes
