I cannot find the sound volume control icon (yellow speaker) in my system tray anymore.
WINXP Pro. V 2002 SP1
AMD Duron 995
128MB Ram

Sounds and Audio devices Properties:
Place volume icon in the taskbar - Won't work. says:
Windows cannot display the volume control on the taskbar because the Volume Control program has not been installed.... use Add/REmove....

I tried but the only thing that shows up in the 'entertainment' is Windows Media Player. Nothing in any of the other catagories I checked out that refers to sound volume.

I'm at a loss. I know I inadvertantly deleted some stuff from the Add/Remove Windows Components but don't remember.

Thanks so much

I'm sorry, didn't mean Entertainment in Add/REmove I meant when I list: Start/Programs/Accessories the only item listed there is Windows Media Player. No sound recorder, etc.

This should help you with your Volume Control.

319095 - Volume Icon Is Not Displayed in the Notification Area, and You Receive an Error Message When You Try to Add It

If what you deleted from Add/Remove was done only recently then System Restore might undo that for you.

linney,
Thank you so much. I view the link you gave me and found the sndvol pgm in a obscure win xp lastGood\system32. Didn't even know about this folder so I did not have to go to the CD. I'm so grateful for your help
