Hi!

I have a problem in Excel 2000
If i write a word in a cell starting with a quote ' like 'month, the quote become hidden. And after if i use code(VBA) to capture info from the cell, the quote is not capture by the variable. Why and how to fix it.

Thanks in advence...

The (single) quote is used by Excel as a "label prefix" - to align the text on the left-side of the cell. This is a "carry-over" from the early days of spreadsheets.

To force a single quote into the cell, you can:

Type 2 single quotes, and only 1 will be visible.

Hope this helps. :)

When you enter an initial ' into a cell, Excel interprets this as you want the cell to be formatted as text. The ' prefix is generelly used when entering a number such a zip code. This way a zip code of 00555 would be displayed as 00555 and not treated as the number 555.

Using 2 's will cause one of them to be displayed. From your example: entering ''month will result in 'month

Hi
I'm not sure of the precise technical explanation but using the apostrophe is a kind of shorthand way to format the cell as text so it aligns left

To get an apostrophe to show add another one
ie ''month
