I have a new customer who has lost his password and access to the system. Does it need to be defaulted and programmed from scratch or is there some way to retrieve the password?

We need to know the version to answer this...

Pre version 3.2 - if you have an old config (llok on the voicemail PC) you can extract the password using Snadboy revelation. SO if you don't have an old config you are stuffed....

Post version 3.2 - you need to use a DTE cable and while system is running connect using hyperterminal - when at the OK prompt type AT-SECURITYRESET and type the MAC address of the system when prompted. This resets the security access to default

Take Care

If at first you don't succeed, skydiving is not for you.

For the pre 3.2 versions you are not stuffed!

The passwords for accessing the IPOffice was on the manager program not on the IPOffice itself.
So open manager on the correct IPadress (if you don't know it connect the a DTE cable and decode the hexadical ipadress shown during a reboot).

The old manager password was Administrator/Administrator (if this doesn't work reinstall the manager and the password will be defaulted again on the manager program) if you are using a 3.2 manager on a pre 3.2 IPOffice its Administrator/password.

Read config from IPOffice use snadboy to determin the systempassword and take the warm cup of coffee the customer is offering you for solving his problem.

So if you're on-site you will always be able to get the password.

The password on pre 3.2 systems is definetely stored in the IP Office and NOT in the admin software.
In the Admin software there are three admin accounts by default and these accounts controls what options you can program, after accessing the manager you still need the password of the IP Office to retrieve the config.
If you don't know it you are stuffed.
If there is a old config on a PC used for maintenance ( VM Pro server? ) then you can open the file off-line and use a windows password reveiler like Snadboy to find the password.
