I was trying to share a drive on my XP Pro computer which is on a peer-to-peer network. On reboot I now get the message that "A Network Cable Is Unplugged" and I cannot access any computer on the network. The cable IS plugged in and has green lights on the card in the computer and on the hub where it plugs in there. All that changed was my attempt to share the drive so I'm sure something I did has caused the problem. Any suggestions on where to begin?
Thanks in advance

Sharing a drive is likely a coincidence. Something is bothering your physical cable connection.

check your
control pannel > network connections

and see if your adapter is enabled

Try powering off the hub and then powering on..Sometimes they get 'clogged'..

( Some technical term, eh! )

Fixed!

Thanks Turkbear.. unfortunately that didn't do it but was worth trying.

The fix was:
Used XPs System Restore.
Made sure I had network connectivity.
Shared the drives WITHOUT going through the wizard.

Phew! I obviously need to get a better understanding of the networking in XP. I don't understand why the 5 Win98 computers have Workgroup = Company Name and the 1 XP computer workgroup = MS Home but they all see each other ?! When I had the XP computer Workgroup = Company Name it couldn't see others and wasn't seen.

It sounds like a hardware issue with your CAT5 cable or the connectors attached (RJ-45), options to try are,
1/ Replace the cable (with a 1 you know that works)
2/ Do a visual check of the cable & remove and re-insert the connectors back into there ports
2/ Check with a Cable Testing Tool or Multimeter

If everything seems ok try pinging your hubs ip address.
