Hi, Please help I have lost my microsoft outlook mail folders after upgrading to XP PRO from WIN 2000. The new outlook express and microsoft express are working but my old mail has dissapeared. Help would be much appreciated

Hi,

Have you changed email client from Outlook to Outlook express when you changed operating systems?

Outlook stores its data in Personal folders files (they have a .PST extension) unless it is a client of Exchange server whereas Outlook express uses .DBX files.

Assuming you didn't wipe the hard drive as part of your upgrade, do a search for *.PST files on all local hard drives and see what it comes up with, then see if you can import it into outlook express.

John, Thanks for your help, I was able to find a .pst file for one of the normal user. Though myself I was using the microsoft outlook as administrator and the .pst for the administrator has disappeared, could it be that administrator setting were over written when I upgraded to XP from win2000, in that case one should not use administrator as username. I notice I cann't have username administrator in xp even though I am the administrator, or am I barking up the wrong tree?
Thanks again
