lost everything on hard drive 1

While surfing the web my PC has completly crashed and now only goes into safe mode when i try and cold reboot it?
I recently upgraded the memory but i was working fine.
How do i get back in and restore my applications

First step is to look in device mangler and see if something has blown a driver and is now in conflict. Ed Fair
