Losing icons when copying profiles

When we move users to new machines we always log them in, restart the machine then copy their old profile into the doc and settings folder. The issue we have is that some icons are showing up with no picture, just a white file or a plain folder. I can restore the desktop ones but am having a harder time with the My Recent and My Music icons. I went into the users profile and right clicked on My Recent, but the icon piece was missing. Any reason why this is happening and how I can correct it. Also we are just moving users from XP to XP, not os change, just newer machines

Does the new machine have the same software installed?

What icons is the ones that usually disappears? Is it the same one all the time or totally random?

I seen a similar problem copying one users desktop to a new machine and word and excel files lost their normal icons even though office was installed on the new pc.

Basically if i recreate the shortcut to the files it fixed the missing icon picture aswell.

How much do you copy across from one pc to another, are you copying the whole user folder from My Documents and Settings?

I am copying the ENTIRE profile, cookies and all. The most common missing icons are the My Recent Documents and My Music, everything found in the start menu. Althought the recycle bin, My Computer and My Docs are also missing I can go into the display properties and restore them to default.

afik the "links" are stored in the registry, since you only copy the profiles and not the registry hive current user you will of course loose them.
