Ok, there are so many places to start.
The best would be
Read there, then visit
Look at the Distro Reviews, Decide on a distro
Read some more about the distro, install it, work with it, get comfortable in the enviroment.
Look at distro reviews again see how they compare to what you are working with; i guess decide if you are where you want to be as far as distros are concerned.
Then, read some more and apply more advanced learning and applications to your enviroment.
From there its about reading about your distro as much as you can and posting on forums pertaining to your distro.
This is kind of how i got started, you may find help doesnt come as big as the linux user base; there are some grumpy people

But, those willing to help will always be appreciated and will help you get through the learning curve. You'll see!
