Does anyone know of another good board for asp/dreamweaver beginners?

I'm not familiar with one.

But while you're here...ASP and all other server scripting platforms and languages are completely waisted in utilization with the use of packages like DreamWeaver.

If you want to write stable, maintainable and efficient server pages, I strongly suugest leaving DreamWeaver to do what it is good at (making pretty pictures) and write you're back-end code on your own.

my 2 bits :)

forum248 <-- is Tek-Tips DreamWeaver forum also if you wanted to go on in there

That's something worth thinking about. :)
What program are you using to write your ASP?

Thanks, Mandie

I completely disagree with onpnt. I use DreamWeaver to write all of my ASP, and have written thousands of pages with it quite happily.

Dreamweaver saves you a ton of time on the non-programming side and is a very good editor for writing ASP.

I do _not_ recommend letting Dreamweaver _write_ your ASP, mind you, particularly not if you intend to modify the source code. Dreamweaver's automatic ASP code writing is, by its nature, very verbose and "redirected" because it needs to be for the flexibility the overall application provides. That same code, though, is very difficult to modify easily and is not a good source for learning how to use ASP.

Still, excellent editor, it saves me a ton of time over InterDev.

To clarify, use Dreamweaver's WYSWYG interface for all of the formatting, etc., and use its code view for writing your ASP.

Ack, third post in a row.

To further clarify, InterDev is perfectly nice and has some goodies that Dreamweaver can't do. I still prefer DW.

It's not a matter of a lack of familiarity or anything, though, because I use the same basic InterDev interface to write Visual Basic code all the time. Dreamweaver's still better for HTML and ASP. For me, anyway.

to answer your question on what I use for scripting

Genimuse has very good points. all of them were really drawn out in detail in this thread awhile back thread333-522942 a great resource for you to set your mind on things.

I don't really want to drag that topic out again lol

I think that was my exact point in,

If you want to learn how to program, then DreamWeaver and other app's of that nature are not a good place to start. And as stated, when you write your scripting you use the code editor. a glorified version of a text editor most certainly!

However, in our exceptional developers like Genimuse that have a very well handle on programming and the theory behind it period, these types of applications are benificial for spped purposes.

It looks like I did push a button there though [lol]

Good Luck!!
