Obviously the person that wrote this had been at the dooby snacks (a terabyte of storage, that’s an excessive min requirement in my book).

Can anyone give me a rough idea of a good hardware spec for Longhorn, maybe someone who is running a beta. We will be purchasing some new machines soon and I would like them to be able to run Longhorn in the future.

Thanks.

"Microsoft is expected to recommend that the "average" Longhorn PC feature a dual-core CPU running at 4 to 6GHz; a minimum of 2 gigs of RAM; up to a terabyte of storage; a 1 Gbit, built-in, Ethernet-wired port and an 802.11g wireless link; and a graphics processor that runs three times faster than those on the market today. "

Bear in mind its not available until 2006 :p

I got the pre-release tested and it run just fine on any decent PC. As usual, the more memory, the better.
See also for some info, but dot' think too far ahead, it is not shipping for another 3 years at least, so by then, you new PCs are already outdated anyway.

Hmmm true i was thinking they we're talking min spec, anyway i think you're right i'll aim for something that will run XP SP2 and save some pennies.

Thanks.

I would think that MS have researched the average PC spec which will be available when Longhorn becomes available in 3 years, and would assume that when the time comes machines with spec mentioned will be available on the High Street :) Remember back before Win 95 was released, people were so worried about the reccommended spec for that also

Also makes me think thats why they are releasing it in 3 years, they have to wait for systems to be readily available that can run it.
