We just ran across a location that had a very long cable run from the PBX to the phones. We're talking over 1000 feet of copper between the PBX and the phones. Doesn't that seem like a bit much? It sure seemed like it was an unreasonable distance to us.

What is the maximum distance you'd recommend for copper runs to digital phones?

Out of curiosity, what is the longest copper run you've seen to a phone that actually worked?

This is for the ipoffice but i think it does not make any difference

Wow, I didn't expect that. I had no idea that cable runs could be that long and still be expected to function.

We have an old version 6 cabinet with 8400-series phones and we've been having problems with the cabling. We weren't sure if some of those problem may have been simply due to the long cable run. But relative to those numbers you posted, 1100 feet isn't that long of a run!

I have some extended about 4 blocks away and work fine. If these 8400 are set up as 2 wire setups it shouldn't be too bad to make them work. If they were setup as a 4 wire and then back to a 2 wire they act a little flacky sometimes.

Hell, there are no rules here - we're trying to accomplish something.

I have run both digital and analog over a mile on underground cable (shielded with drain connected on one end) with no problems. This is way beyond specs, but we did it. I was surprised to say the least!
