my backups are taking a REALLY long amount of time. I'm wondering why 200 Gigs is taking 15 hours. Can anyone tell me if their backups are taking this much time? Can anyone tell me how to speed this up?

Are they network backups? have you tried windows file copies between the remote server and the media server of around 500mb or more and look at the rate?

We had this problem with network backups, although ours are approx 80gb.

gigabit switch(es) between servers should sort things!

Obviously depending on the size of your network will depend how easy that will be...we have only 2 servers so after the gigabit switch was installed, things were much faster.

hmm... very interesting... I'll check on the gigabit switches

Could be port mismatches as well. You may want to force the NIC to a speed/duplex rather than AUTO and do the same on the switch. Best thing to do is try windows file copies to eliminate backup exec

I'd also check through the backup log to determine what time each backup selection takes.

File backups should be the quickest, provided the supporting infrastructure is there, in my experience, Exchange is slower. It would help to know exactly the types of backups being performed.
