Hi My daughter as installed a logon password so other people can not access her computer, but unfortunately she has forgot this password, is there anyway of clearing this password without formatting, her operating system is XP professional, the motherboard is a (Asus P5WD2 Premium) i tried removing battery and swop the Clear RTC jumper over but Asus has informed me that this action will not remove the password and that it is a Operating System problem.
Any ideas would be greatly appreciated. Thanks Steve
 
A long shot but always worth a try:

When you power the PC on, if you get the Welcome screen press Ctrl-Alt-Delete. This should give you a username/password box. Try a username of Administrator with a blank password. It might work, it might not...

Thanks for your input, your advice got me into the computer as the Administrator, although i could not delete the user password it enabled me to save all my daughters music and photos. So now i can reformat and then reload them. Thanks Steve
 
Reset the password"
Windows XP Home Edition or Windows XP Professionala. Click Start, click Run, type control userpasswords2, and then click OK.
b. Click the name of the user account that you want to reset the password for, and then click Reset Password.
c. Type a new password in the New password box, and then type the password again in the Confirm new password box, and then click OK.
d. Restart the computer, and then try to log on to Windows XP again.

If a user with a computer administrator account changes the password for another user, that user will lose all EFS-encrypted files, personal certificates, and stored passwords for Web sites or network resources.
