Hi I am trying to set default printers on various computers so that whoever logs on prints to the nearest printer. I have got the script running on the server and it installs the printer OK. I have also got the script running on a clent and it works fine but when I try to run it as a logon script nothing happens. I am putting the computers in an OU and trying to run the script through their OU and User logon. Anybody any ideas ? Dave

Nope not really. I have got the script running on machines but not through a GPO. Am having a look at scriptlogic Thanks Dave

OK, so you have a script that works but not through GPO. That tells you your problems are with the way you are implementing the script within your AD.

How did you try to implement it?

I hope you find this post helpful.

I have an OU with all the computers in a given area in it. Under Group Policy : User Config : Windows Settings : Scripts (logon/logoff) I have pointed to the logon script. But it refuses to run .Have put it in the netlogon share and put it in its own share with everyone having full access to no avail. Hope you can help. Dave

OK, so you need to first understand that you were trying to apply user settings to a Computer OU. Unless your user objects existed in that OU, it would never process.

Here is what I recommend you do. First off if you have not already done so, download and install GPMC. Go to the Microsoft.com web site and do a seach from the main page for GPMC. Follow the first link that says GPMC with SP1.

Once you have installed GPMC. Launch it from the Administrative Tools menu.

Expand out the AD tree. Right click on the domain name or the OU where your user objects are and choose Create and Link a GPO Here.

You now have a new GPO. Right click it and choose Edit.
Expand out the User Configuration, Windows Settings, Scripts, Login. Right click Login and choose properties.

Click Show Files and paste your script in the window. Close the explorer Window. Click Add and select the script. Click Browse. Select the script and click Open, click OK.

You can at this point either set explicit permissions on the GPO or you can just close it out and use the default setting of Authenticated Users will be applied.

I hope you find this post helpful.

Mark
