- Update -
After spending close to an hour on the telephone with CD this morning, the Tech Support Rep suggested that I look in my application event log for any error messages. Why didn't I think of this before?! Sure enough, I received the following message everytime I uninstalled and reinstalled the APS Admin Plugin:
"Error: Failed to install plugin CrystalEnterprise.APSAdmin due to the following reason: Failed to register plug-in."
When I compared a working installation to a non-working installation I found that the following key was not being created:
HKLM\SOFTWARE\Seagate Software\8.0\Seagate Info\Admin Plugins\CrystalEnterprise.APSAdmin
I tried to manually create the key, but received the following error message:
"Cannot create key: Error while opening the key Seagate Info"
The CD Rep tried to tell me that this was due to permissions, but I was skeptical since I have Administrative rights on the non-working machine. Actually, I have the exact same rights under the same User ID on both the non-working and the working machine. Besides, I can add or delete other keys at will, even within the main Seagate Software folder.
Just for grins and giggles I fully uninstalled CR (including manual directory and registry deletions, again). One thing I noticed is that I cannot delete or rename the Seagate Software registry folder (which is now mostly empty). Regedit returns an error message when I attempt to do so.
Next I logged on under a local administrative User ID (as oppposed to my User ID which is a network user in the local administrators group) as 'workstation only'. I then performed a 'Complete' installation. Once the installation was complete, I was actually able to connect to the APS!!! Woohoo!!! The caveat was that any report I attempted to change and save back to the APS resulted in the following error message:
"Critical error while attempting to communicate with the APS"
CD KB article c2009509 states that this happens when one attempts to add a new report to CE via the Enterprise Folders in CR. Doesn't apply to me. I just want to modify and save what's already there

.
Next, I installed the Crystal Publishing Wizard (still logged in as the local admin) as a standalone application. After I rebooted my workstation (just for kicks), I was able to successfully login to the APS. Even better, I was able to successfully save a modified report on the APS!

Flushed with my success, I performed all the exact same steps on the other non-working worksation. Unfortunately, these steps did nothing to resolve the original issue - I still can't connect to the APS. My frustration level is still very high, I still have a ticket open with CD and I really want that beverage synapsevampire offered;-)
