First off, we do have ADNS set up on our 2000 domain, but there are pc's in another country that are outside of the domain that we have not been able to access without the use of host files on each of our desktop PC's. I thought it would be cool to add a line in the login script to automatically copy the updated host file to each user's PC. The login script works, the host file is successfully copied to each user's C:\winnt\system32\drivers\etc directory...but it just doesn't work. If you ping a host it says unknown host. It worked before when I had to copy it to each machine manually...but now it's hosed.

Any ideas?

I think use hosts file - wrong way. In my mind the better way is to add records about you external PC into your internal DNS server

Unfortunately, we have too many to add manually. Also I would have to update each one myself, which is not worth it.

I believe Odissey is talking about making the entry one time in the dns server, not the workstations, unless you've got a ton of dns servers. Glen A. Johnson
