Login into Windows 2000 Server

I have a windows 2000 server setup at home running AD. When I login to the server thru a xp or 2000 box it take considerable time to load users preferences? What is it actually loading? Any ideas how to reduce the login time.

Yes.. try setting the dns to point to the server on the workstation.
