"Login failed for user '(null)' Reason: not associated with a trusted SQL Server connection."

I tried to set up a DSN to a SQL server database on the Web server. The test of DSN failed when I took the option of Windows NT authentication and I got the above error message.

I also tried using DSN-less connection in an ASP page on the Web server, and I got the same error message when I using "trusted_connection=yes" in the connection string.

Under both situation, the connection could be set up OK when I used SQL server authentication.

So, what is the problem?

Thanks in advance.

Now it became stranger. The DSN I set up on the Web server actually passed the test succesfully. However, when the asp code called the DSN, the same error message still showed up.

I experienced this - you have to set up IIS security to 'Basic Authentication' if you want to use trusted connections in your code. This is a very big flaw on Microsoft's part since 'Basic Authentication' passwords are transmitted in plain text across the network. So, either change your IIS security to Basic or change your code so that you are not using trusted connections... Chris says: "It's time for a beer."
