logging remotely onto another PC

Hi,

When I try to connect to a share on another one of my machines on the network, it asks for a username and password. It never accepts the username/password I give it. However, if I log onto my computer with the same username/password as on this machine I can connect to any share with no problems.

Any ideas?

Is this a domain or workgroup? Do you have exactly the same usernames & passwords on both machines? Is simple file sharing enabled or disabled?

1) Workgroup
2) Yes - same username/password
3) Simple sharing is disabled.

you should enable simple file sharing.

if it generates a password dialog enter your username as follows "YOURCOMPUTERSNAME\YOURLOGON" and then you password

Which computer? The one I want to go on or the computer I am using?

It automatically comes up with the one I am logging onto.

Does this happen with all shares on the network, or just some?

And just trying to clarify - is this what happens:-

Log on ComputerA as User1, Password1 - which credentials also exist on ComputerB - can access shares on B.

Log on ComputerA as User2, Password2 - which credentials do not exist on ComputerB - get prompt. Enter User1, Password1 - no access to shares on B.

Odd - but can't you just create User2/Password2 as user on computerB?
