My buddy is trying to get his laptop to log on to his D-Link AP, but instead, the card keeps tapping into his _neighbor's_!

I advised him to try different channels, and a different SSID... he said he can ping the IP of his desktop that his AP is hooked up to, but cannot access any computers/shares.

Any other advice to offer him? He wants to try encryption, but I told him to get it _working_ first, THEN worry about encryption! :)

Thanks,

Has he changed the SSID of the AP? Ed Fair

Silly suggestion. What would happen if he installed zone alarm and told it NOT to go to that ip address? Glen A. Johnson

Hi

My guess is that he has set his own AP up in such a way that his client can't connect and therefor goes to his neighbour's instead. In this case he can always check the config of the AP. Otherwise he can reset the AP and start again.

He should find an option in his client utility that controls which SSID the client can connect to. My guess is that it is now set to connect to any which is default.

A few tips anyway.
