Here is the problem.I had a HP 1200 printer installed on me win 2000 p.c. The scanner attachment would not work so I contacted HP and they had me uninstall their software and since then the win 2000 pc boots up fine and lets you log in with no problem but right after you log in the blue background screen(not the blue screen of death)would just stay there until you do a second CTL+ALT+DEL.Then the desktop will come up. Also the pc is a Compaq p3 256k ram 20 gig hd,service pack 3.Logging into a winnt 4.0 server. And yes I have tried to log on to the local pc and that don't work either. Thanks in advance.

Boot into safe mode. Once there do several things.
1) ensure that no programs associated with the printer software are set to start up with the PC.
2) Ensure the printer software has been totally removed.
3) check the registry under "HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\software\microsoft\windows\currentverion\run" and make sure no HP software is set there.
also check in "HKEY_CURRENT_USER\software\microsoft\windows\currentversion\run"

I have already reinstalled the HP software and the user is useing the printer and scanner.Should I uninstall it and then check to see if those things are there?

Are you still having the issues even after reinstalling? If so then yes uninstall it then check. Let us know. James Collins

If the above does not work you could try:
If you have multiple users/logins (admin and user) try logging in with the other username or creating a new one and see if the problem still exists. Also check to see if the active desktop is enable, if it is disable the active desktop and use .bmp instead.
