Log in's and passwords failure to prompt 1

Hello, I have run the WRKGADM.exe and saved it to my "L" drive on the LAN. I went in it and created my login and set a password for the admin login. That works great, then I opened the database I am trying to secure and have users log in with set up log in ID's I created in the SYSTEM.MDW file on my "L" drive. The program runs and I have a secured database. I entered the permissions in it after i logged in. The problem is it does not prompt any one else who log's in just me from my machine, but the file is out there and so is the secured file. I also tried to just open the database it self and run the security lvl wizard to create a new file and set up the ID's and the permissions. I again stored that on the "L" drive. It is prompting again only on my machine. I am at my wits end. Can anyone offer some suggestions or some advice?? I tried going step by step according to the security FAQ at Microsoft, I do not think I missed any steps, but I have no clue anymore.

To implement security, you need to follow all the steps correctly.

There's a security FAQ that should lay it out pretty well for you. The basic steps are:

1. Create a new workgroup using WRKGADM.EXE. Don't just make a copy of System.mdw.

2. Join the new workgroup.

3. Create a new user name for yourself, and set a password for your user name. Put your user name into the "Admins" group.

4. Remove the default "admin" user from the "Admins" group (leave them in the "users" group).

5. Open your database and run the User Level Security Wizard. This will make a secure copy of your database without changing the original.

6. Open the new, secure database, and set up your user and group accounts. If you don't want the default user to have access to your database, set up a new user group, and remove all permissions from the existing user group.

This is the condensed version of Access Security. I recommend you read the instructions so you understand it before you implement it.

Do I need to go to each maching and join them in the work grooup? I also get asked if I want a short cut to the database, should I select yes and use that for each PC besides joining each on to the work group? Or just use the shortcut and direct it to the correct system file on the LAN drive the database is on?

You don't need to join them to the workgroup. What I do is set up a shortcut that points them to the correct .mdw file using the /WRKGRP command parameter.

Ok, the command lines are what really gets me confused, can you copy an example of a command line with the /wrkgrp referenced. If I can see it i would understand more about it. I knwo that my system file will be on my "L" drive along with the database.
