Upon logging in under my user name - windows immediately cycles into log-off. I can use safe mode - but it does the same action in both Administrator name and my user name. Cannot get into anything - or go beyond this.... any tips... or is this a major restore?

I would look first to virus, adware, spyware, etc. Remove & cleanup see if any is found. Try this before applying the 'bomb'.

If you find no joy here...when you do start over consider partitioning your drive into a smaller "C" drive large enough for the OS and applications with the remainder of the drive as a data store. When & if you have to do this again you can then just clean the "C" partition out reload and still have your data intact.

Thanks for the suggestion - but I can't get into my computer at all - because the windows log in - just logs me off almost immediately....

Try these workarounds.

Logon - Logoff loop, also caused by BlazeFind.

There is non-virus malware going around now that does this. Read this whole article:
A second reason can be security polciy settings:
HOW TO: Install and Use the Recovery Console for Windows XP (Q307654)

on another machine, download Lavasoft Ad-aware, Spybot - Search and Destroy, and Trend Microscan. Make sure you get all the latest updates. Go to Microsoft.com and get he Sasser removal toolkit. burn them to disk.

You may be a late victim of the Sasser virus.

Boot your machine into Safe Mode, run these programs. Clean all the gunk it finds.
Try rebooting.

Hope this Helps.

Can you install those programs in safe mode? I thought safe mode didnt let the MSI installer work the way it wants to.

Plus doesnt the sasser virus reboot the computers after 60 seconds by the lsass bug?

I'd look at the stuff Linney shows... Or at least boot into safe mode and check the Run part of the registry to see what programs you have running and then do some googling to see if any of those can cause it. If it can, take it out.
